Burmese Tea Salad Food Demonstration by Okui Lala, Steven Nyi Nyi, Florence Lay

"Tea" is a beverage in most part of the world; in Myanmar however, it is drunk as well as eaten as tea is native to the country. "Lahpet Thoke" in Burmese is Tea Salad.

Historically, Lahpet was an ancient symbolic peace offering that was exchanged and consumed after settling a dispute between warring kingdoms. Now Laphet is served as part of daily meal, during festival occasions and a snack to guest. It is usually served with all the ingredients in separate  piles so that guests can pick out a combination to their own preference.

In this series of video installation, Okui, a Penangite, looks into the traces of history of the early Burmese settlement in Penang and the recent migration culture in the city though road's name and Burmese food- Lahpet Thoke (Burmese tea salad).
